Author: Estimate1 When thinking about remodeling your basement you need to first know what you are going to be using your basement for. Are you going to add a room, bathroom, or maybe a lounge for entertaining? Ask yourself if you are going to do all or part of this home improvement project, and how much money you have for this project. Doing the work yourself will save you money, but if doing the work yourself is not an option then you need to hire a contractor to do it for you. Just shop around and compare contractors in your area.
If you decide to do it yourself than you need to make a list of materials that you will need. Since a basement remodel can take weeks to months to complete, when you are doing it yourself, you should divide the project into sections or phases. Doing the harder sections first will make the rest of the work seem easier. So when you are buying the materials just buy what you need for each section or phase. This way you won't have everything laying around in your way and it won't be as expensive to spread it out.
There are other things that need to be considered and planned out, such as the location of sewege pipes, water pipes, furnace, and sump pump. You need to know how high your ceilings are, where the water pipes and ductwork are (on the inside or outside of ceiling joists), and how level your floors are.
By planning your home improvement project carefully, and taking into consideration the construction phases of this basement remodel you will save yourself time and money in the long run.
